Prairie Rush 2000 - 50 mile endurance
The Distance Riders of Manitoba held their first ride of the season on
April 29th in Sandilands Provincial Park (free camping in whatever you
choose - no gun-toting rangers!).

Weather cooperated beatifully with lots of sun and a stiff breeze. Camp
was in a beautiful campground with tall pine trees and a lake complete
with ducks and whirlibirds (there was a forest fire nearby and the
helicopters were filling up their water buckets from the lake).

Ride management went to a great deal of trouble to mark the trails - 25
miles of trail was marked 3 times by the Ride Manager, Kevin Myers
(thanks Kevin). The trail marking was not only removed by vandals, but
rerouted in parts. The trails were absolutely gorgeous - a 15 mile loop
twisting and winding through mature pine forest with sandy (and root
filled) footing and a number of steep hills. This was quite a technical
trail. The 10 mile loop was again through the forest, but less hilly and
wider trails.
