horse nervous around other large groups of horses

I am thinking about entering my horse who is a thoroughbred in an endurance ride this weekend. I am sort of worried about the large groups of horses that might make him nervous. My daughter who is 9 is going with me and she has a very reliable quiet horse that my horse likes to be with so that will help. Any suggestions from other riders are appreciated. I think that a long ride would be good for my horse and I just feel aprehensive at the start of the ride if riders just take off and he feels left behind.
