I was also at American River this year....

I just want to say that the same thing happened last 
year with the rangers coming through camp telling people 
they had to take their tents down and they couldn't 
camp if they weren't self-contained, etc...

Some of the burden for the problems that arose this 
year have to fall on ride management. They should have 
at the very least alerted participants of the "potential" problem since it had occured the year before, and at best 
they should have called all the participants on Monday 
when the rangers notified ride management of the "new" 
rule so that riders could have made other camping 
arrangements.

It may be that the park doesn't want the ride to be there anymore, but leaving the burden of not being able to camp 
on the riders isn't fair. 

Anyways thats just my $.02.
