"Pulled" is More Info Than Just on Horse/Rider
When EN publishes the pull stats at rides, sure one might note certain
"trends" for certain horses/riders. But, one might also note the quality of
trail laid out by the Ride Manager and if it is indeed a "Fair" trail, which
can be negotiated by most riders riding to the conditioning level of their
horses in the given time.
If one sees, say 50 starters and 25 pulls on a given hundred....what does
that say about the difficulty of the trail?.....the way the trail is laid
out?......the ambient conditions of weather, topography or altitude?
The information contained therein, if properly gleaned by the reader,
might just clue some folks in as to whether or not that THAT particular ride
might be in their future or maybe that there would be "no way" that THAT
particular horse/rider team should try that technically hard, or inherently
"unfair", or WHATEVER ride.
I think the "Ride Results" should also reveal the altitude, topography,
weather and wind conditions, bogs present, deep sand present, whether natural
forage was available on the trail, colors of horses who "made it", colors of
who didn't....SHEESH...come to think of it, JUST WHAT DOES THE PULL RATE TELL
US?
Nothing more than the name of the horses/riders who didn't finish the
prescribed trail in the allotted time....BUT THE TRUTH IS, even THAT isn't
really "information".
I guess there really is no point in publishing the "PULLED" info, other
than to maybe look more closely at that particular ride and try to determine
whether that trail was "Difficult" or "Unfair", ... not always the same thing.
Been Pulled, Probably Will Be Again One Day,
Never Happy About It,
Frank.
