Barb: Ok--from my encyclopedic dictionary-The term comes from an archaic
Old French word-- "tache" meaning a fastening; clasp; buckle. Also, a
nail, fastening.
From there cometh "tack" which means the saddle, bridle, etc., used in
riding a horse. Not much else to report~
