Horsehair Mecate vs. Cotton

Hi everyone,
I was considering switching over to a bosal for my gelding..  he's been in one
a few times and does well.. he seems more relaxed on the trail and doesn't fuss
as much with his head.    Anyone have experiences to share with the horsehair
mecate vs cotton reins?  (besides the fact that you have to wear gloves for
one) :)
