Time to Think

Yes, it is likely that we will lose trails. But is the question one of
banning all use of our public lands or better management of them. Banning
is so easy, it doesn't require any management or skill. "You can't be here,
period." How could it get any easier? To me, an outright ban shows a total
lack of vision, imagination, interpersonal skills and hope for the future.

It is so much more difficult to go out and work with the various groups, to
get voluntary compliance to not use certain areas in certain ways, to
involve them in the care of the public lands. That takes skill, that takes
vision, that takes imagination, that takes interpersonal skills and a true
hope of a bright future for our public lands.

No, I won't vote to ban ORV's from our public lands. As is true in so many
situations, the true damage is done by only a few. I suspect that if you
were to take the time to talk to those people using ORV's you would find
that most of them see and know and do their best to minimize the damage they
do and would be more than willing to be a part of a plan to help in
preserving and restoring our public lands to their former glory. My vote
is for public participation, not public banning. No, you're right, Steven,
I don't see the same light you see.
