a topical treatment that works well, especially on dogs, is alpha keri bath
oil.  you can get it at the pharmacy.  mix it in a spray bottle with 3 - 5
parts water to one part alpha keri bath oil.  spray on and rub in.  hot red
skin on dogs is relieved very fast.  i know of one horse who was rubbing out
her mane and stopped almost right away.  good luck!  jm
