Re: RC: Fwd: RC: Fwd: Karahty bloodlines - proven performance
Hi Lif
A tragedy happened to us along those lines. A maiden mare came in who
was not halter trained---nor ANYTHING trained and she was 4! The owner
wanted her natural covered but I had misgivings and asked that a vet do
it (first time I'd ever done that--- a premonition, perhaps). Anywho,
the vet, who specialized in breeding and had been on the staff at 2 vet
depts, wound up giving her 3 shots of tranq and twitching and
sidelining. Hal was inside her when she still managed to buck which
dislodged him momentarily and when she bumped down he entered her anus.
It was NO ONE'S fault---a fluke. I called UC Davis, Alamo Pintado, and
Charlie Boles to see whether this could have been prevented, --- there
response was unanimous---it happens and is rare but when the mare squats
during penetration or bucks, it is a possibility and the odds are that
there will be a problem as there is no time to prevent the anal
penetration in the case of a buck or perforation in the case of a squat.
Despite antibiotics, lavages, and daily care by the vet (and he donated
his time as did we--- the owner rarely showed up for the treatments but
talked a lot about suing when it was over), the REALLY SAD part was that
she died (I believe the vet and I spent more time with her that week
than her owner had her whole life). The real fault lay with the owner
who not only had not provided her with the basics of training but did
not even show up for the breeding to handle his unruly mare, although he
was advised of the time. And the topper! He was a TRAINER---claimed to
have studied with Pat Pirelli and is STILL giving workshops. Life's
little ironies!!!!
