RE: RE: RE: RE: Karahty (and Bloodlines in Arabs)
<My point is the stallions listed as being top sires in the database are
also top sires of MOST North American bred arabs, whether they are bred for
endurance, show, pleasure, or whatever.>
I already conceded to this fact. Also, the study did turn up quite a few
mares, any thoughts on that?
<Sure, you could hedge your bets on a more modern stallion that is proven
for endurance. I have no quarrel with that. But to base a study to say
that
all Arabs descending from Raffles (I'm just throwing out a name), because he
has so many get that are registered in the endurance registry, would be good
endurance prospects would be ludicrous.>
Absolutely correct, I am glad I never said that. I probably would have got
flamed if I had.
<So do you really think you are making an intelligent decision? I think
that a wiser choice would be to buy from a breeder who has a successful
program in nurturing and training endurance prospects along with long-term
selective breeding, rather than to buy a horse because he has ten lines to
whoever.>
I actually already have a great horse and am not looking to breed. However,
if I was planning on breeding, I would want as much empirical evidence as
was available to assist me in making a wise decision. Don't mince my words,
I am not proposing that we engineer our endurance horses, I am saying that
there is a lot of useful data available that we are not utilizing. I have
never said anything other than that.
So you give me a break!
