Just my opinion, but I would only go for the 50 if you are doing 20 - 25
miles at one time with no problem, and if the 50 is not in more difficult
terrain than you train in.
One guess for the cause for the bucking could be he is still afraid the
saddle is going to hurt him. Hopefully its not because something still isn't
right.Good luck.
