     Thanks Maggie!  Though I knew I was correct in what I wrote, it is great 
to have a farrier of Nelson's caliber confirm that.  Especially since what I 
suspect is one of the "nail a keg shoe on and rasp the hoof to fit it" types 
was rather unhappy with my comments about long toes.  This guy actually said 
that it is the hoof WALL'S job to carry the horse's weight.  No mention of 
the sole, bars, or bony column.  He didn't think long toes were a problem.  
Ah well, takes all types . . . (feel sorry for the horse's he shoes, though).
     Nelson is like RD, and my own farrier, Andy Canoy . . . simpatico . . . 
the happiness, health, and long term soundness of the horse their primary 
concern.
