Wish me luck, I can really use some
Friday April 21 is our 50 km qualifier for the first "real" endurance ride
in Egypt. So far, after my mare broke her sesamoid in October, 2 weeks ago
my new gelding slipped on a patch of concrete walking out of his box and got
a hairline fracture of the cannon bone, and a trailer-truck lost both it's
engine and brakes on an onramp to a bridge Saturday night and crushed the
right side of my new jeep that was on its way back from an inaugural desert
camping trip with my daughter and a friend (and myself driving). Somehow
(and I still have no idea how) I managed to gun the engine and push far
enough past the trailer as it began to jackknife that the corner of the
trailer just made my car about 15 cm smaller and removed the glass on that
side, but the truck itself didn't actually hit us. My 16 yr old daughter was
asleep in the back seat at the time with her head (thank heaven) behind the
driver's seat, but her friend Zena was sitting in the passenger seat next to
me. No one got anything worse than a scratch, but the car is totalled. So
I've gone from an organiser/rider to an organiser/driver to organiser/?????.
Friends are muttering about the bad eye and my horses all have blue beads
braided into their hair. Short of taking up Mel Gibson's Braveheart makeup
scheme, I'm at a bit of a loss. Maybe someone is trying to tell me
something. Oh, well, I'm not always a good listener.
