Farmette

I am in the process of looking for land for my horse farmette.  I can only afford 8-10 acres.  One lot I've found is 8 acres with 400 feet of frontage and is about 800 feet deep.  Does anyone know if more or less frontage is better for designing a house, barn, and pasture?  Once I've found a lot..how can I find out whether the owners in the area are going to care if I ride through their property.  I want to buy in a horse friendly community.
