management was towards the LDers.  Someone trying to incite a flaming session?

shoulder about LD.  She took great offense to the fact that there were 
restrictions placed on LD's that were not imposed on the 50's.  Read Steve 
Shaw's post to understand what went on.  I don't know if she was the one who 
posted.  It would really be a stretch to interprete what was said as 
offensive.  Steve was trying to provide a learning situation.  Courtesy 
checks make it possible for a rider to get through vet checks without knowing 
how to take the horse's pulse.  There were people available to teach anyone 
who wanted to know the different ways to take the pulse with and without a 
stethoscope.  The penalty was not for not knowing how to take the horse's 
pulse, but for presenting as horse as down when the horse was, in fact, not 
down.  This is one of the functions of limited distance rides, an opportunity 
to learn.  There are no courtesy checks if you are out in the wilderness on a 
training ride and you need to take your horse's pulse to evaluate a possible 
problem.  If you already know how to take the pulse, this is not a problem.  
If you don't, this is an opportunity to learn.  You need a pretty big chip on 
your shoulder to find this offensive.
