Is this a troll? There was no name on the lengthy note on how awful the
management was towards the LDers. Someone trying to incite a flaming session?

There was a lady at the pre-ride meeting who seemed to have a chip on her
shoulder about LD. She took great offense to the fact that there were
restrictions placed on LD's that were not imposed on the 50's. Read Steve
Shaw's post to understand what went on. I don't know if she was the one who
posted. It would really be a stretch to interprete what was said as
offensive. Steve was trying to provide a learning situation. Courtesy
checks make it possible for a rider to get through vet checks without knowing
how to take the horse's pulse. There were people available to teach anyone
who wanted to know the different ways to take the pulse with and without a
stethoscope. The penalty was not for not knowing how to take the horse's
pulse, but for presenting as horse as down when the horse was, in fact, not
down. This is one of the functions of limited distance rides, an opportunity
to learn. There are no courtesy checks if you are out in the wilderness on a
training ride and you need to take your horse's pulse to evaluate a possible
problem. If you already know how to take the pulse, this is not a problem.
If you don't, this is an opportunity to learn. You need a pretty big chip on
your shoulder to find this offensive.
