Before I supported anything drastic I would want to know, out of all the
rider miles out there how many injuries from races at the finish there
really are? I would expect it is a very small percentage. I would
suspect you are probably more likely to be hurt in your truck driving to
and from the ride.

In 10 years or riding and keeping up with rides in the region, I only
know of a couple of crashes at the finish line. Actually one was a mile
out and the other right at the finish line. They both involved tired
horses that tripped.

But before we go "fixing it" shouldn't we know what "it" really is. If
it is one accident at the finish per 1000 rider miles that's one thing.
If it is one accident per 50,000 rider miles that's something else. I
would suspect it is more the latter than the former.
