 sponge-monsters swimming down the crick! ( >>

Letting the sponge down on the downstream side of the horse so that the
sponge is carried away from the horse by the current will help (a bit!) to
keep both the young and seasoned horse sane. A few yrs ago an experienced
horse spooked when the sponge (apparently let down on the UPstream side) ran
under & wrapped around it's leg. As I recall, the rider jumped off in a
hurry, but in so doing, injured her knee.
Practise putting on those very attractive (but very space saving) plastic
rain ponchos BEFORE the ride ---- a brisk, rainy day can really wake up your
horse if it's not accustomed to the rider putting one of those things on.
