Satyanarayan</FONT><BR>Abu Dhabi - Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum leads a
strong line-up of UAE riders in today's 84-kilometre Al Wathba Cup Endurance
Ride. A private ride, the Al Wathba Cup is jointly organised by the newly-formed
Emirates Endurance Club and Neibal Group International.
<P>Apart from Sheikh Rashid, who is one of the world's best riders, his brothers
Sheikh Hamdan, Sheikh Maktoum, Abdulla Bilhab will also be taking part in the
three-stage ride to be held at the Al Wathba Endurance Village. Riders from
Qatar are also expected to take part.
<P>The ride, being held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al
Nahyan, will start at 7am. Around 24 horses from the Al Wathba Stables and 16
from Al Reef Stables will also be in the fray. Over 80 runners are expected in
the ride which will be split into legs of 36, 32 and 16 kilometres.
<P>On the sidelines of the ride, the organisers have planned a range of
activities to attract and keep the spectators involved. Activities include a
desert safari, kiddie shows and entertainment, music and live entertainment,
Arabic bands and folk dances.
<P>Valuable cash prizes and cars are at stake for the first five to finish in
the ride and also for the 'Best Conditioned Horse'. The winner will get
Dh100,000 plus a Land Cruiser. A Land Cruiser (Pick-up) and Dh50,000 await the
second place rider while third, fourth and fifth place riders will get Dh25,000,
Dh15,000 and Dh10,000 respectively.
