Re: Beet Pulp water
Hi Sallie
Its very easy. Just put a scoop (plastic feed scoop) of beet pulp (shreds
or nuts) in a bucket and fill the bucket to the top with water. Leave it
for a few hours and hey presto you've got beet juice.
On a ride I do this in a bucket with a snap-on lid and as the horse drinks I
just keep adding more water. At the end of the ride I put the bucket in the
paddock/stable once the vetting's over (having added more water) and by the
morning its usually all gone, water & beet pulp. Obviously the horse has
ordinary water as well.
I have a gelding who stops drinking pretty much as soon as he is loaded into
the trailer. This is a real pain. I've found that he will drink good
quantities of the beet pulp juice and just rinses his teeth in his water
bucket! This way I can at last start a major ride with the horse more or
less hydrated. There's nothing worse than the ride vet making a face at the
colour of the membranes at the initial vetting - really fills you with
confidence knowing you've got 100 miles to go and already there's a B on the
vet card!!
Hope this helps.
