RS SHADOWFAX is second generation removed from The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
check out his photos, and pedigree on my pages.

There absolutely was a lot of variety among the Original horses. I have
*one* of those types... follow my links to see some of the others.

Hi all,

On another list (the Shagya list) we
are discussing the extreme dished
face/teacup muzzle features in some
purebred Arabs. We are speculating
as to what bloodlines this is most
prevalent with in the purebred Arab.
It has been noted that many of the
early photographs of purebred Arabs
they do not have dished faces. Arab
type faces to be sure, but no dish.
Can any breeders shed some more
light on this?

An article I read some time ago
stated that the Bedouins from a
certain tribe (several centuries
ago) felt that extreme dished
faces/teacup muzzles were faults and
discarded these animals from their
breeding programs. However, they
were pleased when they discovered
that these animals were highly
prized by European monarchs and that
they would pay great sums for these
"culls". The article speculated that
the reason these extreme faces on
the horses were considered "faults"
was because of the possibility of
reduced airway and teeth problems,
I.e. upper jaw.

OK, all you purebred Arab fanciers
and breeders, what do you say? All
comments and speculation and
knowledge is welcome. We are
curious. I personally have noted
that many of the photos in the Lady
Wentworth book have "straight" faced
Arabians and many of the Polish
horses from Witez II's time are also
rather "straight" faced. :)

CMK experts? Heidi? Bette? Lif? Arab
breeders? What say you?
