Re: Rabies Kills Horse In N.C.
Sorry, here I come again - I think I mentioned this rabies incident LAST
year??
Rabies and horses::::
I do equine massage at a harness track south of Pittsburgh - the Meadows,
and last year, I believe, one of my client's standardbreds was found
acting very strange one morning, smashing his head around so violently
that, if I remember correctly, his jaw was broken!! He was sent to a vet
(though very difficult to handle) who evidently didn't think rabies
immediately and this horse was kept alive too long. Turns out it was
probably a raccoon that got him - a scratch was found on his face. I was
told that that was the FIRST time a horse got rabies at that track.
After the incident, raccoons were trapped and moved off track (???) and
released?? (maybe they were killed, hmmm) and all the poor/lucky track
cats got rabies shots. Amen vets, amen!!
So, it's lions and tigers and bears, oh my!..... or, possums and
raccoons and bats, oh my!
(and dogs and cats and Angie's daughter!!! OH MY!!)
Late Night Karen in COOOLD again PA
*************
They can appear to be either hyper-excitable or depressed. They can't
swallow properly, so they drool and dribble feed.
