To me the deciding factor between a dually and a regular rear axle would have
to do with how I'd use the truck. The dually DOES have more stability as a
tow rig, and is great for going down the highway fast without any bobbles.
Where the dually falls down is on ice, in mud, and in tight maneuvering
circumstances. Most rides have plenty of room for a dually--the way a
gooseneck cuts wide, the extra width isn't really a disadvantage when towing.
But for us, where our truck has to double as a feeding rig in nasty weather
and as an off-road vehicle doing trail work, a dually isn't workable. If all
I did was haul horses, I'd sure consider one, though.
