Having slept on a foam pad (used to use an air matress until a dust devil
came through a camp while I was on the trail and sucked my matress out of
the truck bed and impaled it on a joshua tree) on the bed of my truck for
12 years and several thousand miles of NATRC and LDs I at least had some
notion what features to look for when spinal arthritis and my recent stroke
made it mandatory that I get more living comfort at rides if I was going to
continue doing rides. The RV I got has a back window that opens out
totally (it's the emergency exit) and both side windows by the twin beds
slide forward, leaving the opening at the back. My head and ears and eyes
are actually closer to the horse than when I was in the truck with its
shell (and I can get out of bed and be out the door faster than I could
ever manage in the truck, even in my younger days <g>). Since I tie to the
trailer (portacorrals are not my thing, even when allowed) and have never
had a horse get loose or in trouble in all this time, chasing loose horses
(at least mine) is low on the concerns.
(And since the RV has 100 gallons of water storage I had the dealer plumb
one of the drain lines to the back of the vehicle so I can use that water
for the horse too. I hate hauling water buckets <g>.)
