Hi Bobbie,
I don't know about in the west, but I used my slide-in for fourteen years 
here in the east. I now own a gooseneck and love it. Don't have to load 
slide-in every time, the gooseneck is more stable to tow, and much more 
convienient in the long run.
I don't have a stove like I had in the camper, but I never had room for a 
porta-pottie in the camper either, and now I've got one and love that too.
All in all- the gooseneck wins the vote!
