Re: conditioning

I had the interesting experience of taking a 7 1/2 year old horse
from the pasture and turning him into an endurance horse. It is
rare to get one's hand on a horse that had not done anything harder
than run around a pasture for 7 1/2 years! Here is what I found.

It took two years (600 miles) to develop his back.
It took three years (1000 miles) to get his pulse to drop like a stone.
It took a year and half before his legs stopped swelling after rides.
It took three years for his feet to stop cracking. (he was unshod
before I got him)
It took three years for him to become Mr. Cool at rides.
It took a great deal of patience.
When I made a mistake, he paid for it.
It was a great education and was worth it.
I will not do it again!

It is nice to read a short post that has so much value packed into it. I
agree with all but the " I will not do it again. "
