The AERC rules state the horse must be at least 60 months of age. It is also
stated "3.1.1 Age is figured from actual date of birth. In cases of no
papers on an equine , a ride Veterinarian's opinion and discretion must
prevail".

And yes, you can lose if you flaunt this rule as is the case with all rules.

I'd be interested to know what a person is supposed to do with GRADE
horses in regards to age.......
My filly is not registered (she was supposed to be a PINTO!) and the only
proof I have of her DOB is the sales receipt from the breeder.  But she
was purchased as a weanling - what about horses that are much older and
have been through so many owners no one remembers their birthday?
