If I Was a Horse, They Would Shoot Me
Well, Remington and Skjoldur will now start the year 2000 endurance season
with a very long rest. Good for them; not so good for me. I spent New
Year's Eve (and our 22nd wedding anniversary) in the emergency room getting
X-rayed and treated for a broken leg, a lateral tibial plateau fracture.
Later this week I will go in for surgery to realign the broken bone with the
knee joint and reattach it with a screw.
The irony is that after years of riding strange terrain at night on endurance
rides I would wind up injuring myself by simply dismounting from one of our
young horses, Prinsessa, while training in the round pen. I didn't even fall
but obviously must have landed awkwardly. I've fallen off Skjoldur several
times on the trail before but have never suffered anything more than a
bruise. Maybe I just shouldn't ride at home. I definitely shouldn't train a
young horse without anyone else around again.
Oh well. Now I can watch videos, surf the net, catch up on old e-mail and
live the life of an armchair endurance rider. We'll be back for Tevis.
