Re: RC: Re: RD shoe ?
They are a rim pad with a tube that looks like piping on upholstered
furniture. The tube is flexible and hollow. As the horse compresses
the tube with a foot step, the tube changes shape & pushes out the snow
so that it can't build up.
We used tham all last winter & they worked great to keep the snow out.
The sole & frog is open.
Unfortunately, we get mud in the winter, too. The mus tended to get
trapped under the tube & was hard to clean out completely. Rocket had
chronic abcesses under the tube all winter & into the spring. He
eventaully avulsed about 20% of his hoof at the coronary band when a
huge abcess graveled out there. I can't say for sure that they were
related to the no-snow pads, but we aren't using them this year, thaty's
for sure. We lost all of last season nursing a lame horse.
They didn't seem to make any difference in shock absorbtion for us. If
you don't have tons of mud, they would definitely be worth a shot. If
it is muddy, I'd look at whether you can keep his feet clean under them.
