    USET Announces Squad ForThe 2002 World Equestrian Games Endurance Squad

    Gladstone, New Jersey, June 28, 2002. The United States Equestrian Team (USET) has announced the endurance squad of six riders and nine alternates, pending Executive Committee approval, that will represent the United States in the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain in September.;

    Named to the squad of six (in alphabetical order) are:

  • 1. Heather Bergantz of San Jose, California, and Crystals Charm
  • 2. Kathy Brunjes of Bethel, ME, and Ali Darkness
  • 3. Beverly Gray of Park City, UT, with Paladin
  • 4. Valerie Kanavy of Fort Valley, VA and Shahdon
  • 5. Cia Reis of Pennsdale, PA, and Catch A Wave
  • 6. Steve Rojek of South Woodstock, VT and Finally

    Named as the nine alternates (ranked in order by the Selectors):

    The squad was named based on the candidates' past records as submitted in the nomination applications and during the Qualification Period as evaluated by the Selectors.


    NOMINATED RIDERS AND HORSES FOR THE 2002 WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES ENDURANCE SQUAD

    Listed below are the riders and horses nominated for the 2002 World Equestrian Games Endurance Squad. These 44 riders and 56 horses will now travel to at least one of the nine named USET Selection Trials to try to be selected to the squad of six and nine alternates that will be named for the 2002 World Equestrian Games.

    All nominees will be observed at each of the Selection Trials by the Selection Committee which is made up of representatives from each of the five US Zones as well two Active Athlete Selectors and the Chef d'Equipe and Team Vet as Ex Officio participants. At each Selection Trial, all nominated horses will be examined by the Team Vets both before and after the ride in order to establish medical base lines for the horses and give the riders advice on management issues.
